August 25th, 2013 - It was a tough weekend for Jake Griffin as he entered a trio of UMP Open Wheel Modified events throughout the midwest.

On Friday night the action opened at Jacksonville Speedway (Jacksonville, Illinois) with a UMP Weekly Racing Series Event. With 15 entries in action Jake raced to an 8th place finish in the main event.

Saturday evening took the team to Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Illinois), and 1it would prove to be a night full of mechanical woes. In hot laps the car cam-locked, which bent the left-rear shock. The team fixed it and went back out for qualifying, and the car was much better. However, in his heat race the car cam-locked again, which again bent the left-rear shock. The team made some changes for the feature, but would still experience the same problem. Jake would manage to salvage an 11th place finish. 1The weekend drew to a close on Sunday evening at Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois), where a strong field of 22 entries looked to conquer the UMP Open Wheel Modified feature. Via preliminary action Griffin earned the 16th starting spot for the main event. Griffin would advance to as high as the 8th position before he suffered a flat tire, which forced him to retire to a 16th place finish. 1August 18th, 2013 - The 2013 season has been an uphill battle for Jake Griffin as he has competed at several new tracks in a new division, but on Saturday he finally able to put it all together as he raced to his first victory of the year with a Late Model triumph at I-44 Speedway (Lebanon, Missouri), and with the win became the youngest driver (14-years-old) to ever win a NASCAR sanctioned event!

The asphalt oval hosted double, 25 lap features for the Late Model division, which saw 18 entries in the pits. Griffin would receive the 11th starting spot for the first feature, and at the drop of the green flag he began working his way forward. By the midway point he was into the top five and with just five laps remaining he overtook the leader, Aaron Rouse, for the top spot and went on to cruise to the victory!

In the second feature his luck would not be as good as he was collected in a turn one melee that ended his night early.

"Obviously the second feature didn't got as we had hoped, but the first one was just awesome," an elated Griffin commented. "My crew, my sponsors, my family....they've all done so much for me this year, and this win is for them!"

On Sunday evening the action moved to Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois) 1for another UMP Open Wheel Modified program at the clay oval. With 19 entries his night came to abrupt end in the feature, when a car spun in front of him, leaving Griffin with nowhere to go. Jake made hard contact, ending his night. 1August 11th, 2013 - Jake Griffin resumed his pursuit of the 2013 JEGS/CRA All Star Tour Rookie of the Year title on Saturday with a trip to Auto City Speedway (Clio, Michigan) for the Silver Bullet 100 presented by Coors Light and JEGS.com.

Jake began his outing by qualifying 14th fastest, and on lap 81 he was passing for the 3rd spot, when he was door slammed which caused him to spin. He rejoined the tail of the lead lap around 15th position, and by lap 93 he was already back to the 7th position. On the white flag lap he was running 6th, when he attempted to pass for 5th. As he pulled to the outside of the 5th place car, the 7th place car dove to the bottom and made contact with the driver to the inside of Griffin, which sent him into Griffin. As a result Jake spun coming to the checkered flag and was credited with a 10th place finish.

Even though it wasn't the finish that Griffin wanted it was the best car he has had on asphalt so far and gives him a lot of confidence for the upcoming events.

The weekend concluded on Sunday evening at Quincy Raceway (Quincy, Illinois) 1with an UMP Open Wheel Modified Weekly Racing Series Event. Jake won his heat race to start the night, but the team discovered a broken chain after the completion of the heat. Early in the feature he encountered more mechanical issues and retired to an 18th place finish. Full results from the racing event are available at www.QuincyRaceways.com.

1August 4th, 2013 - It was another triple header weekend in the UMP Open Wheel Modified division for Jake Griffin in his #08 Bob Pierce Race Car, and unfortunately it would be filled with more downs than ups for the young driver. (Jeff Hall Photo)

Action opened on Friday night at Spoon River Speedway (Canton, Illinois), where 19 cars entered the program. Griffin battled the handle throughout the night and was only able to manage a 13th place finish in the feature. Full results from the race are available at www.PeoriaSpeedway.com.

The team rolled into Peoria Speedway on Saturday evening, and heat race action found Griffin slipping to a 5th place finish, and as a result he started 9th in the feature.
